Reiki is a type of energy work that originated in Japan. It’s a simple method of light touch that is based on the Asian concept of ki or life energy. A session feels like a glowing radiance that flows through and around you. The experience is very soothing and results in the client entering a wonderful state of relaxation in which one’s worries and cares seem to melt away.

Reiki relaxes the nervous system and activates alpha brain waves.  According to an article in Psychology Today, neuroscientists recently made a correlation between increase productions of alpha brain waves boost the ability to reduce depressive symptoms and increase creative thinking (Christopher, 2015).

In a session the client lies fully clothed on a massage table while the practitioner gently places his or her hands in positions around the head, shoulders, abdomen, legs and feet. While giving reiki, the practitioner’s hands can also be positioned an inch or so away from the body, according to the comfort level of the client.

A typical reiki session is about 45 – 60 min. Many people feel very relaxed and calm immediately after relieving reiki, aches and pains are typically reduced, and new ideas might come to them. Reiki can be life changing!

Conditions treated with reiki: insomnia, stress, headache, aches and pains, palliative care and more.
